Meena’s First Period-2

மீனாவின் முதல் மாதவிடாய்(பாகம்-2)

(சிறிது நேரம் கழித்து,மீனாவின் அப்பா கணேஷ் இருச்சக்கரவாகனத்தில் பள்ளிக்கு வந்து, மீனாவினைத் தன்னனுடன் அழைத்துக்கொண்டு வெளியே வந்து வாகனத்தை வீட்டீற்கு எடுத்தார்.மீனாவும் பின்னே ஏறி அமர்ந்த்க்கொண்டாள்)

(A little later, Meena’s father, Ganesh, arrived at the school on his two-wheeler. He took Meena with him, and they rode back home. Meena climbed on and sat behind him.)

 

(வீட்டிற்கு செல்லும் வழியில்,வாகனப்பயணத்தில்)

(On the way home, during the ride)

 

மீனா:அப்பா, மிஸ் நா வயதுக்கு வந்துட்டேன் சொல்றாங்க. அப்படின்னா என்னப்பா? ஏன்பா இரத்தம் வந்துச்சி? எதுக்குப்பா வயிறு வலிக்குது?

Meena: Appa, Miss said I’ve “come of age.” What does that mean, Appa? Why is there blood? And why does my stomach hurt so much?

 

கணேஷ்:அது ஒன்றும் இல்லம்மா, சாதாரணமா எல்லா பெண் குழந்தைகளுக்கும் வர்றது  தான்.பொதுவா பருவம் அடையுறதுனு சொல்லுவாங்க.

Ganesh: There’s nothing to worry about, ma. This happens to all girls. It’s natural. People call it “reaching puberty.”

 

மீனா:என்னப்பா சொல்றீங்க?

Meena: I don’t understand, Appa… what are you saying?

 

கணேஷ்:உங்க அம்மா இருந்திருந்தா இதெல்லாம் உனக்குப் புரியும்படியா சொல்லியிருப்பா. நான் உன்னச் சின்னப் பொண்ணாவே பார்த்து வளர்த்துட்டேன். ஆனா உனக்கும் வயதாகிட்டே போகுது. நானாச்சம் உங்கிட்ட முன்னாடியே இதைச் சொல்லியிருக்கணும்.

Ganesh: If your mother were here, she would have explained it to you clearly. I’ve only seen you as my little girl and raised you that way. But you’re growing up now. Honestly, I should have told you earlier.

 

மீனா:எனக்குத்தான் சின்ன வயதிலிருந்தே அம்மா இல்ல. நீங்க சொல்லல. ஆனா ஷாலினிக்கு அம்மா இருக்காங்கல.அவங்க ஷாலினிக்கு சொல்லலேயேப்பா. எனக்கு பைல்ஸ்னு என்னைய ஒரு நிமிஷம் நம்ப வச்சிட்டாப்பா.

Meena: I grew up without a mother, Appa. You never told me anything. But Shalini has her mother, right? Didn’t she tell Shalini about all this? For a moment, she made me believe it was piles, Appa!

 

கணேஷ்:பைல்ஸா!( சிரித்தபடியே) நீங்களாம் சின்ன பொண்ணுங்க. அதனால அவங்க அம்மா இன்னும் வயதிருக்கு அப்புறம் சொல்லிக்கலாம்ன்னு நினைச்சிருப்பாங்க.ஆனா எப்ப என்ன நடக்குதுனு யாருக்கு தெரியும்.

Ganesh: (laughing) Piles? Oh, silly girl! That’s why her mother probably thought she could wait until later to explain it to her. But who knows when these things happen?

 

மீனா:அப்பா, ஒரு மாதிரி வயிறு குத்துதுப்பா. வலிச்சிட்டே இருக்கு(வலி வேதனை தாங்காமல்). ஆஸ்பிடல் போலாமா?

Meena: Appa, my stomach is hurting so badly. It feels like something is piercing me. Can we go to the hospital?

 

கணேஷ்:ஆஸ்பிடல்லாம் வேண்டாம்மா. இந்த நேரத்தில வலிக்கத்தான் செய்யும். உங்க அம்மாவும் இப்படித்தான் சொல்லுவா என்கிட்ட கல்யாணம் ஆகின புதுசுல.

Ganesh: No need for a hospital, ma. Pain is normal at this time. Even your mother used to say the same thing to me when we first got married.

 

மீனா:(அதிர்ச்சியுடன்)! என்னப்பா சொல்றீங்க?அப்ப வலி போகவே போகாதா டெயிலியும் வலிக்குமா?

Meena: (shocked) What, Appa? So this pain never goes away? Will it happen every day?

 

கணேஷ்:(சிரித்தபடியே) டெயிலியும் வலிக்காது கண்ணா! மாதம் மாதம் இன்னிக்கு உனக்கு நடந்தது போல நடக்கும்.அப்படி ஆகும்போது உனக்கு இதேமாறி வலிக்கும். ஒரு 5-6 நாளுக்கு இந்த மாதிரி இருக்கும்.அப்புறம் சரியாகிடும். நீ பயப்படாதே!

Ganesh: (smiling) Not every day, kanna. It will happen every month, just like what happened to you today. And when it happens, you’ll feel this pain for about five or six days. After that, it will be fine. Don’t be afraid.

மீனா:போங்கப்பா. என்னால இன்னிக்கே முடியல நீங்க மாதம் 5-6 நாளுக்கு சொல்றீங்க, எப்படிப்பா நான் தாங்குவேன்? நினைச்சாலே பயமா இருக்கு!

Meena: Oh no, Appa! I can’t even bear it today, and you’re saying it will happen for five or six days every month? How will I manage? Just thinking about it makes me scared!

கணேஷ்:கஷ்டம் தான்மா. ஆனா அதெல்லாம் தாங்குற வலு உனக்கு போகப்போக வந்துடும். அப்பா நான் மீனா குட்டிய பார்த்துக்கிறேன்ல ஏதும் ஆகாது சரியா?

Ganesh: Yes, it’s tough, ma. But slowly you’ll develop the strength to bear it. And your Appa is always here for you. Nothing will happen to my little Meena, okay?

 

(என பேசிக்கொண்டே இருவரும்,சில நிமிடத்தில் வீட்டினை வந்தடைந்தனர்)

(As they continued talking, they reached home.)

 

(வீட்டிற்குள் கணேஷ்,மீனா நுழைந்த பிறகு)

(Inside the house)

 

கணேஷ்:மீனா, போய் உடம்புலாம் சுத்தம் பண்ணிட்டு  துணியை மாற்றிட்டு ஓய்வு எடு. நா நம்ம பூ விக்கிற பக்கத்து வீட்டு சாந்தி ஆண்டிய கடைக்குப் போய் அழைச்சிட்டு வந்துடுறேன்.

Ganesh: Meena, go clean yourself up, change your cloth, and take some rest. I’ll go to Shanthi aunty’s flower shop next door and call her here.

 

மீனா:சரிங்கப்பா.

Meena: Okay, Appa.

 

கணேஷ்:சரிம்மா, போயிட்டு வந்துடுறேன்.

Ganesh: Alright, ma, I’ll be back soon.

 

(என கணேஷ் கதவை மூடிவிட்டு, வாகனம் எடுத்துக்கொண்டு சாந்தி அவர்களை அழைத்து வர பூக்கடைக்கு கிளம்பினார்.)

(Ganesh shut the door, took his vehicle, and went to Shanthi’s flower shop to bring her home.)

(பூக்கடை வந்ததும்)

(At the flower shop, a little later)

 

கணேஷ்:அக்கா! சந்தோஷமான விஷயம்.நம்ம மீனா உக்காந்துட்டாக்கா! இப்ப தான் ஸ்கூல்ல இருந்து கூப்பிட்டு வந்தேன்.

Ganesh: Akka! Good news. Our Meena has grown up! The school just called me.

 

சாந்தி:(ஆனந்தத்துடன்) அடேயப்பா! மீனாவா ஆஹா! நல்ல விஷயம் தான் சொல்லியிருக்க கணேஷா.

Shanthi: (happily) Ayyo, really? Meena? Ah, that’s wonderful news, Ganesh!

 

கணேஷ்:எனக்கு சடங்கு சம்பிரதாயம் எதும் தெரியாது. நீங்க வந்து கொஞ்சம் பெரியப் பொண்ணாகிட்டாளா வந்து பார்த்து மீனாவுக்கு என்ன பண்ணனுமோ பண்றீங்களா?

Ganesh: I don’t know anything about rituals or customs. Can you please come and guide us? Do whatever is usually done for a girl at this stage.

 

சாந்தி:இதோ இப்பவே போகலாம். ஆனா நா வந்து என்னனு பார்த்துட்டு கிளம்பிடுவேன்.வேல கொஞ்சம் இருக்குப்பா.

Shanthi: Of course, let’s go right away. But I’ll only stay for a while—I’ve got work at the shop.

 

கணேஷ்:சரிங்கக்கா பரவால வாங்கப் போகலாம். (பின்னர்,இருவரும்  மீனாவுக்காக முட்டை வாங்கிக்கொண்டு வீட்டை அடைந்தனர். )

 Ganesh: That’s fine, Akka. Come, let’s go.

 (They both bought an egg for Meena on the way and reached home.)

(வீட்டிற்குள் கணேஷ்,சாந்தி நுழைந்த பிறகு)

(Inside the house)

 

சாந்தி:என்னப்பா, மீனா இப்படி பெட்டில் படுத்துட்டு இருக்கா? நீ அவக்கிட்ட சொல்லலயா எதையும் தொடாதமானு?

Shanthi: What, Ganesh? Why is Meena lying down on the bed like this? Didn’t you tell her not to touch anything?

 

கணேஷ்:விடுங்கக்கா! அவளே வழி முழுக்க முடியல்லன்னு சொல்லிட்டு வந்துட்டு இருந்தா . அவக்கிட்ட போய்ட்டு நீ  கீழ உக்காரு எதையும் தொடாதனு சொல்ல எனக்கு மனசு வரலக்கா.

Ganesh: Leave it, Akka. On the way itself she kept saying she couldn’t manage. I couldn’t bring myself to tell her “don’t touch this, don’t touch that.”

 

சாந்தி:என்ன பொண்ணுக்கு அப்பா சப்போர்ட்டா. சரிதான் நல்ல அப்பா நல்ல பொண்ணு. எழுந்துக்கவாச்சும் சொல்லு உன் பொண்ண என்னனு பாக்கலாம்.

Shanthi: Ah, what a supportive father! That’s nice… a good father raises a good daughter. Come on, ask her to get up. Let me see what’s going on.

 

(மீனா எழுந்து ..)

(Meena sat up slowly.)

மீனா:வாங்க அத்தை!

Meena: Come in, Aunty!

(என மெதுவாக எழுந்து அமர்ந்தாள்.சாந்தி மீனாவிடம் விவரங்களை அறிந்துக்கொண்டு அவளை பார்த்து மாதவிடாய்தான் என உணர்ந்துக்கொண்டாள்.)

(Shanthi spoke to Meena, understood the details, and realized it was indeed her first period.)

 

சாந்தி:என்னடி பாக்குற? எவ்வளவு பெரிய விஷயம் வயதுக்கு வந்திருக்க கல்யாணத்துக்கு பொண்ணு தயார்னு ஊருக்கு சொல்லிடலாமா?(நகைச்சுவையுடன்)

Shanthi: (teasingly) So what’s the big deal? You’ve grown up now! We can even announce to the village that you’re ready for marriage!

 

மீனா:என்ன அத்தை பேசுற. நானே வலியில துடிச்சிட்டு இருக்கேன். நீ ஏதோ உளறிட்டிருக்க.

Meena: Aunty! How can you joke like this? I’m in so much pain here, and you’re saying all this nonsense!

 

கணேஷ்:அவங்க உங்கிட்ட விளையாடுறாங்கமா. நீ தப்பா எடுத்துக்காத.இந்தா இந்த முட்டையை மட்டும் அப்படியே குடிச்சிட்டு படுத்துக்க.

Ganesh: She’s only joking, ma. Don’t take it seriously. Here, just drink this egg raw and lie down.

 

மீனா:என்னது அப்படியே குடிக்கணும்மா? ஐயோ எனக்கு வேண்டாம். ஏற்கனவே நீங்க அன்னிக்கு குடிச்சீங்கனு, நானும் குடிச்சி பாத்தேன்பா. வாயெல்லாம் ஒரு மாதிரி நல்லாவே இல்ல.வாந்தி வரமாறி ஆயிருச்சு.

Meena: What? Raw egg? Ayyo, no Appa! The other day you drank one and I tried too. It tasted horrible and I almost vomited!

கணேஷ்:வழக்கமா இந்த மாதிரி ஆச்சுனா கொடுக்குறது தான்மா. பொறுத்துக்கோ. வேணாம்னு சொல்லக்கூடாது.இந்த ஒரு நாள் கண்ணமூடி குடிச்சிடு.

Ganesh: Usually, this is what they give at such times. Just bear with it, don’t refuse. Close your eyes and drink it for today.

 

(என மீனாவுக்கு கணேஷ் முட்டையை ஊட்டி விட்டார்)

(Ganesh made Meena drink the egg.)

கணேஷ்:அக்கா, நீங்க முன்னாடி இருந்து மீனாக்கு தண்ணி ஊத்துனா  நல்லா இருக்கும்னு நா நினைக்குறேன்.

Ganesh: Akka, I think it’ll be better if you’re here to give her water and help her through this.

 

சாந்தி:இதுல என்ன இருக்கு. அக்கம் பக்கத்தில நாங்க வேறு எதுக்கு இருக்கோம். இப்போ நா கடையை அப்படியே போட்டுட்டு வந்துட்டேன். சாயங்காலம் வந்து தண்ணி ஊத்தலாம்.

Shanthi: What’s there to think, Ganesh? We neighbors are here for exactly this reason. I even left the shop open and rushed. I’ll come back in the evening and give her water for the ritual bath.

 

கணேஷ்:சரிங்ககா, ரொம்ப சந்தோஷம்.

Ganesh: Thanks a lot, Akka. I’m really happy.

 

சாந்தி:சரிடி பெரியவளே, அத்த கிளம்புறேன்.யாரையும் எதையும் தொடாம இரு. நையிட்டு தண்ணி ஊத்தி உன்னக் குளிக்க வச்சுடுறோம். அதுக்கு அப்புறம் நீ எங்கனாலும் படுத்துத் தூங்கு. இப்போதைக்கு கீழே இறங்கி உட்காரு.

Shanthi: Alright then, grown-up girl. I’ll leave for now. Don’t touch anyone or anything. In the evening we’ll bathe you properly, and after that you can rest wherever you want. For now, sit down here on the floor.

 

(எனக் கூறி சாந்திக் கிளம்பினாள். மீனா கீழே இறங்கி அமர்ந்து விட்டாள்.ஆனால், அவளால் படுக்க நினைத்தால் வசதியாக படுக்க முடியவில்லை. இப்படியும் அப்படியும் நெலிந்து கொண்டே இருந்தாள் )

(Saying this, Shanthi left. Meena sat down but felt very restless. She couldn’t lie down comfortably in any position and kept shifting and turning.)
